Food deal - don't call me weird, I like it

Post by Slip Shod » Fri Jun 10, 2022 7:50 pm

Food things that go together & discovering we like it.
- open discussion if you dare.. The taste oddities some of us enjoy.

You know that pizza you couldn't finish from the night before and it went into the fridge.
I had a piece left & nuked it for about a minute and had some potato salad in the fridge too so I pulled it out and smeared a good helping a potato salad over the pizza and it was glorious. I believe the merging of these two was meant to be. It touched all my buttons.

Salted chocolate. Something about it really makes it zing.

Did you mean you apply salt to the chocolate or can you buy salty chocolate ? I know some people like to salt their watermelon πŸ‰ and then there is the salt in the beer thing

I salt my watermelon, and you can buy salted chocolate it is incredible..., especially with caramel too

I don't have a lot of weird combos, mostly because I don't like mixing food tastes, but, I like potato chips on bologna sandwiches, and chocolate-covered pretzels, I salt my green apples too, ( I love salt obviously...lol), and I like peanut butter on celery.

I salt my chocolate. I figured it out years ago. We have a family sweet recipe that is little more than semi-sweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips melted together, then mixed with cashew pieces and crunchy chow mein noodles. Drop clusters onto wax paper and let cool. I found that I liked it when the salt on the cashews was on the top, so I tried just salting the whole cluster. Genius!

Sure, potato chip bologna sandwiches qualifies for sure. That's a new one for me. I understand Elvis's favorite sandwich was peanut butter and sliced banana

In Ireland and the UK crisps sandwiches are common fare. Usually just a couple of slices of bread, both buttered, and a layer of potato chips. (Crisps.) I've never tried it, but I've heard both Irish and English people speak fondly of the combination.

Also, nobody but nobody in the British Isles or Europe puts mayonnaise on a sandwich. It's always butter. Mayonnaise is for salads.

I consider that classic not at all weird. I was born in a town that was once known for Granny Smith apples and this was far from secrate there.

Now it's a hipster community and all the orchards are gone.

I upvoted this, even though I don't like Blue Cheese or Pears. However I can understand the appeal.

Has to be a ripe but crisp and firm green skinned Packham pear, and best with say a good aged Stilton on thin walnut bread toast (cooled so has some crunch to it). The walnut, pear, blue cheese combo, takes it to another level.

As for the cheddar and granny Smith apples, one of my fave 'treat' go to breakfasts, is toasted vogels bread, with sharp cheddar, and then paper thin granny Smith apple slices, under the grill, to melt that yummy cheddar and slightly soften the apple...omg ..so good. My parents had a fruit and vegetable store, in Cheshire UK, when I was a young child, Granny Smiths were a constant in my life as a kid lol ..one of my Mum's favourite apples. She used to make a killer apple pie only ever using Granny Smiths.
