The Means of Money on the Monday NO PO Open Thread
How does everyone feel about the replacement of paper and coin money by technology? I like the convenience of debit cards ( though not a fan of some of the rules about my bank has, like a limit of how much I can put on one even though I have money in the bank to cover however much it is). But, I also like using cash for many things, some because it is the only choice ( here there are still places where they don't accept debit and credit cards, then there is the whole under the table business which is pretty common here)and some because it is preferable for a few reasons. I like having it I guess generally.
But, I have gotten used to simplicity. I also prefer to write checks ( and have to for some things) when I can, I just like the process...I have a chase card with the Disney logo, way cool, the collect part being the rewards, I have like $160 in Disney cash I have been saving in case I get to go to Disneyland...lol...I assume I will have no choice because it is going to happen sooner or later unless I am too old for it to matter, or dead already. I do not have a smartphone and don't want one, so, I would prefer that isn't the only option...

Re: The Means of Money on the Monday NO PO Open Thread
I look forward to the day when I have a big fat wallet full of various credit cards under various names and a wad of cash big enough to buy a new car, all replenished regularly by my corrupt lawyer and his team of clever accountants.
As long as it buys me the toys I want I don't care about the details.

Paper/coin money is only a symbol. So fundamentally, I have no real issue with that money being replaced by other symbols. Meta-money, if you will. So the technical means of conveying that symbol of value to another entity, in return for goods provided or services rendered? Just fine by me.
I pay for things mostly by AMEX. I keep a bank card for those vendors who do not accept that means of payment… and I make sure to always carry cash too. But the wallet is thin now, and in my front pocket nowadays. I found that keeping lots of cards in a fat wallet in my back pocket contributed to lower back issues! This keeps things simple.

I use cash. No one can trace you, no one knows what you buy, when or where. No data is shared with everyone under the sun.
Big plus is that you can bargain and get stuff for big discounts. You can also get receipts for stuff that you need for FIT purposes at tax time.
Cash makes the best gifts. Not traceable. Nobody's business but yours and whomever you are dealing with.
Cash cannot be hacked.

Actually, cash was hacked for decades. (It’s called counterfeiting, and it’s only in the past decade or so that this became extraordinarily difficult to do and easy to detect.) Yes it’s untraceable. But frankly, I don’t care if govt knows what I purchase. I’m gonna buy an espresso grinder in the next few weeks…. should that be some sort of state secret? lol

Counterfeiting is not hacking.
When I go to the bank to take out cash, it is run through a machine that 1. counts it correctly and 2. recognizes counterfeit bills and kicks them out.
How I spend that good cash cannot be hacked and, although anything is possible, cannot be traced easily, only attempts to trace it occur when something illegal has happened and law enforcement becomes aware of it. Since I do not do illegal transactions or deal in illegal activities, there is no scrutiny on my cash transactions, and no hacking.

There are places I would rather fly for dinner. Disney Land may be Angelle's favorite place, but I've been there and I don't need to go back.
But if y'all want to come up here we can go to The Depot, which is one of my favorite places.

I think I will start with the Dungeness Crab Mac. That looks good

Actually, I highly recommend that. The drive up highway 101 along the California, Oregon, and Washington coasts is spectacular except for a few boring bits. Then when you get to Port Angeles you can take the ferry across to Victoria BC, which is as close to being in Europe as you can get in North America.

For you kids following at home...
It turns out my stomach issues are gallbladder. Good because it's a pretty simple fix. Bad because that fix is still a surgery.

Re: The Means of Money on the Monday NO PO Open Thread
I was wondering if that was it, I had mine removed...it wasn't a good time at all, but I felt a whole lot better once I recovered...they did mine as out patient, I wouldn't recommend that, so if you can not do it that way it might be a little easierGuideToACrazyWorld wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 10:27 pmFor you kids following at home...
