Memory Methods on the Monday NO PO Open Thread
I have some short-term memory loss, mostly things like walking in a room and not remembering why I am in there, or going into the kitchen and not getting what I actually went in there for. My biggest peeve is words I have known how to spell my whole life and then suddenly forget how to spell them. The thing with most of those things is I eventually remember, I just can't retrieve it right when I want it. this goes for movie titles and actor names etc also.
I use more things now to remember things I need to remember, like work stuff, or chores I need to do or grocery lists, or things I need to do online etc...sometimes though it might be different now that I am back to work, I can't remember what day it is. I use a lot of sticky notes, I think you retain things better, at least I do, when you write them out. I will also still make up acronyms. I also make lists, lots of lists. And sometimes I stick them on my laptop and still forget...lol..guess I get used to it being there and don't think to look at it. Do you have memory issues, how do you help yourself remember?

Re: Memory Methods on the Monday NO PO Open Thread
I have a heck of a time with my Mom and her memory. She's pretty good about things from a long time ago, but not so good about what happened yesterday. It's worse when she's tired too.
Just yesterday I went to see her and she didn't have one of her waterproof pads on her chair (she was sitting in her wheelchair.) I asked her where they were (she's got seven of them, one for every day.) She said she didn't know, and that she couldn't find them. It took me less than 5 seconds to find them in her closet, where she had to have put them. The laundry girl doesn't usually put away her stuff. She also has a heck of a time finding her clothes. She never seems to put them away in the same drawer twice.

Thanks, I've been meaning to pick up some ginkgo biloba, but haven't gotten around to it. 5 minutes ago I placed the order for some organic I've read a lot of good things about this stuff. Helps with the memory

I don't remember. I'm not going to remember. No one is going to make me remember.

I make lists for the grocery store, then I walk off and forget them

Ahh.. the grocery store, yep. Don't know what it is, but as soon as I walk the door of a grocery my mind goes totally blank - even though I practiced half a dozen times what I want to buy.
