Slippery Slopes on the Saturday NO PO Open Thread
Common wisdom seems to be saying that slippery slopes are fallacies, and many of the memes I found about them think so for sure. I don't know that I agree. They seem to be applying the fallacy to the idea where it is used in some cultural issues as an excuse not to move forward on improving a current situation, The one that comes to mind, is the old gay marriage thing, and what traditional marriage actually means...some people saying that if we allow that, then what, people marrying animals etc, where you predict a bad outcome as resistance to making progress for something you just don't like, in an over the top, hyperbolic way. On the other hand, I can think of things I personally think are slippery slopes...like if we keep allowing people to get away with bad things, the things people do will only get worse, because there are no consequences. I always thought restricting any rights for any people, leads to more restricting of rights for other people etc. I know this could be seen as slightly political, but, it is the concept itself and the different views of it that interest me. Thought it was an interesting topic, and it is getting way harder to come up with them... Any thoughts? Or examples you believe in?

No doubt, it's a slippery slope / or slippery elm ⤵

The subject is inherently political.
As this is a NO PO thread, I will not comment on the subject…. lest we careen down the slippery slope into politics. Wouldn’t want to get in trouble with the moderators.

I didn’t think it was political at all but then I’m concerned about falling and breaking something

Look, I already said it could be seen that way...and that we can go off-topic, but while there are slippery slope political things, there are slippery slope societal things...plus, I couldn't do it on the PO because of the way that is set up...When have you ever gotten in "trouble"..you have been asked to tone it down or a against the rules post deleted, but, not like you have ever been timed out or banned...
You can discuss the topic using non political things and besides, this place isn't exactly strict rules and all..the biggest and really only important one is to be civil

Well, she thinks she can at some point, just a long process and a few setbacks and the Covid thing is an issue with her...it is her site, so not like it will go away. I know it has been a long time, but, more patience is needed
And..what does that have to do with what I said?

If you talk to her, tell her she is missed. But she needs to do things in her own time. I know she has quite a battle on her handsZ is for Zangie wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 6:09 pmWell, she thinks she can at some point, just a long process and a few setbacks and the Covid thing is an issue with her...it is her site, so not like it will go away. Re: Slippery Slopes on the Saturday NO PO Open Thread
It might be a bit of a slippery slope, but as I posted on the Zangie's Zany Zoo - today October 30th is National Text Your ex Day. wow, good luck
Re: Slippery Slopes on the Saturday NO PO Open Thread
Can’t imagine doing that. I’m not on ‘bad’ terms with any exes, be they lovers or simply friends, but I see no value in initiating contact. People who are in the past are there for a reason. There are plenty of other folks out there… far better to simply let go and move on
