Post by Z is for Zangie » Fri Apr 29, 2022 3:25 am

I will eat almost anything with chocolate or strawberries, or chocolate and peanut butter, or chocolate and sea salt, caramel. etc...lol... also like cheesecake and dutch apple pie. And the pecan encrusted maple-filled donut discovered recently.= by Bill which he will bring in the morning...lol

That’s a difficult decision. I’m not sure what to pick. Cheesecake? Brownies? Applesauce? Peaches? Apricot filled cookies? Lindt Dark Chocolate Truffles?
I could go on and on Lol!

Seems you got a pretty good boss Ms.Z

It's hard to nail down a favorite dessert, I guess it depends on which one sitting in front of me. A few honorable mentions would include strawberry cheesecake, apple pie and ice cream, and a wonderful Christmas cookie thing my aunt used to make when I was young. All I remember was it being called a rum ball. It was round and powdered on the outside with a walnut rum kind of the taste on the inside

I’m not a big ‘dessert’ guy. I rarely purchase any of those things. I will occasionally make a simple cake or some cookies, or my wife will make them, but by and large for me ‘dessert’ consists of a) a small piece of dark chocolate, accompanied by b) some fruit such as raspberries, strawberries or pineapple or something and c) a nice triple shot of espresso. My espresso, despite not having the ultimate gear, comes out pretty close to what you get at a good restaurant or barista. I’ve actually been trying to break the espresso maker, in order to have an excuse to get a better setup. But the process of compacting the grind into the portafilter, which the manufacturer of my system advises against, has not broken it - but only made the coffee taste better.

As it would take spending around $2K to improve on it, I’ll opt to live with my current configuration for as long as it lasts.

As far as coffee goes, and I do love the smell of perked coffee, I'm more of a convenient oriented guy & the best jar coffee out there is Taster's Choice French roast -drinking it black.
Many times it'll be black coffee and toast for breakfast as a starter getting me going or toast and orange juice / vodka - one of the perks of not having to work anymore

I'm really not a big desert guy. Most of the time at a nice restaurant, while my wife has a desert I will get a nice cheese plate.

There are some items I like, anything sour, like Key lime pie, or lemon meringue pie. I like a good cannoli. And the burnt sugar mellows out a creme brulee to a point that it's enjoyable. I've recently developed a liking for Mangonadas, one could argue that is in line with sour, but it's also salty, sweet and in a way briny.

You drink espresso at desert time? or do you mean earlier in the day?

I mean at dessert time. I have my local roaster make me a special blend that’s 2/3 his excellent espresso blend, and 1/3 one of his decaf blends. Espresso is not high caffeine anyway**, and I mellow it out just a bit more.

You’re wondering about how it affects sleep. It doesn’t. What DOES affect sleep is if you make a milky drink with it. In adult humans, milk does not digest particularly well…. and especially at night, it will just sit in you and roil you up. So espresso is OK after supper, but cappuccino or latte should be avoided.

**Espresso can be high on caffeine if you want a light roast. But most folks like a dark roast for espresso, and the process of roasting coffee knocks caffeine out of it. So as the saying goes: the darker the bean, the less caffeine.
