As for the 14 year old, he could indeed be a professional Call of Duty player! The military is highly computerized, and many real-life roles look just like videogames. His story is cool, good for him for finding a passion! But like John Stossel, his analysis of the issue he’s seeing is incorrect. I can think of a thousand things wrong with school. Hell, I mostly did not like school. But the effect he identifies at 5:20 is not an effect of school itself. It is not an effect of algebra and calculus. It is not an effect of botanical studies. It is not an effect of home economics or metal shop or the study of classic literature.

It is, rather, an effect of groupthink. Of peer pressure. Of fear. Perhaps some school systems instill these pressures and fears (Florida “don’t say gay”??), but most systems make their best efforts in the face of all the external pressures and fears to get the minds of kids moving.

This is sort of non political. I'm loaded (no comments from the peanut gallery) and waiting in line to dump, but the water quality guy has shut us down. The boss is arguing with them but no clue what's happening.
