I apologize, I just had a very long day at work, had stuff I had to get done once I got home, and today at work has been just as bad...I promise to do them tonight for tomorrow.

Re: Yes, I couldn't get to to the threads today
I have tepid hopes for the new Star Trek series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Could be good, could be terrible. Apparently the whole idea was to go back to the concepts of the original series. In fact, it's a prequel to the original series, about Captain Pike, Spock, and Uhura, along with a bunch of new characters.
I don't have my hopes too high, but fingers crossed. The only Star Trek I've had any interest in in a long time has been Star Trek: The Lower Decks, which is hilarious. (Looking eagerly forward to season 3!)

I haven't seen any of Star Trek: Discovery and I don't consider the Abrams Trek movies watchable under any circumstances. However I have always contended that the series they should have made was a Captain Pike prequel to TOS. This is apparently supposed to be exactly that. Including going back to the "monster of the week" format instead of season-long storylines.GuideToACrazyWorld wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 3:27 pmI kind of feel like Pike is played out. we will see.
That said, from the trailer it seems like they've gone for a more cheesy captain like Shatner's Kirk than Jeffrey Hunter's more serious Pike. They've also gone for a more modern glossy aesthetic when I would have liked a more retro-futurism calling back to the pilot episode of TOS. Finally, I don't have a problem with "representation" in a series like this, but I don't think it needs to be thrown in our faces like it appears to be. I have no problem with LGBTQ characters, but the rather obvious lesbian character with stereotypical short punk hair makes me question how normalizing they are going to make it.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong here, and they'll subvert my expectations by tricking me into thinking she's the "representative" character when it turns out to be someone else.
We shall see.
