My dad was pretty conservative, especially fiscally, and being a devout Catholic, he was definitely pro-life and even started the local Right to Life chapter after Roe. We disagreed on a lot of stuff and had debates on many of those things. But, he had some socially left things that kind of made up for my horror...(LOL)...I should explain that...there is an element of a lot ( though certainly not all) of conservative ideology that I disliked because I just thought it was mean. And I never understood that part. But, he was far from a mean person, and he wasn't bigoted or prejudiced or mean about being left ( other than he said I was emotional about this stuff...lol). I suspect that the reason I have dated some conservative guys is for the parts of him I really admired that they have. He was the major influence in my life and he helped deflect the problems I had with my mom. He taught me a lot of things, a good work ethic, kindness to people, helping them when I could, and never expecting a return, pursuing intellectual stuff, and that I could be anything I wanted to be. There were several things I went my own way on, but he never got mad at me for that.

My folks were not political and nearly never talked about politics, but they did vote when they had the chance to. I'd say they voted the Democratic ticket for the most part, now you have to understand the liberal Democrat of the past is not your same 'liberal' Democrat of today, entirely different animal. It's moved on to progressivism, taken over by the fringe . The peaceful, loving Democrat of the past, liberal in the sense of wanting good things for everyone, the little guy, it's not what we're looking at today. So, like so many others the South, which was the Democratic strong hold, now has turned red. It's too bad, many miss the days of ago. It's all screwed up

We still exist Slip, in fact, we are the majority of the party...our extreme left is just that , extreme...moderates and just "liberals" are what drive voting, don't let what some of our very diverse party do and say tar us all...just like I don't assume every conservative it far right.

The culture shift really picked the pace in the '60s, everything was fluid, values re-thought. But you wouldn't know it by going to school today because they don't really teach the real history of things getting into historical cycles empires and reasons.
I know it's funny, the man on the street interviews from late night TV hosts, sticking a microphone in the face of someone walking by and asking who who did we fight in the revolutionary war ( Mexico, Germany), asking can you point out Illinois on a map & getting Pennsylvania. Kids ain't learning anything in school - the department of education should be shut down and given back to the States, it's time. Like I said it's all screwed up and many are putting this on the shoulders of the Democratic party
- right, I should have used aren't, I used ain't, it's a personal choice I don't care - so now I guess I ain't getting a 100 on my paper

Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 turned the South from democrat to republican as a reaction to giving blacks civil rights and voting rights.
Rick Perry switched parties along with all southern white democrats.
Southern democrats were never liberal, were prejudiced and bigoted, just like they are now as republicans. They believed in segregation and still do, actually kill black joggers if they jog through their neighborhoods, will drag a black man to death behind a pickup truck in Texas, will, as a policeman in South Carolina, shoot one in the back after a traffic stop and then plant their own laser on the back man to make it look like self-defense.
Rick Perry did not change the name of the family ranch 'N*ggerhead Ranch' until it was divulged when he ran for president.
Liberal white democrats do live in the south today, but are in a minority.
BTW, progressive is much better than 1970s arrested development culture war liberalism.
Progressives actually want to pass laws benefitting all Americans, not just fight culture wars, like those 1970 liberals do, with equally arrested development GOP pining for segregated WASP dominated 1950s.
Please, Slip, live in the world of reality rather than in one of your white entitled fantasy.

My Dad has taken on my politics more and more. Understand this is a man who was at the JFK party where Marilyn Monroe sang Happy Birthday. Dad was a union man. He was nonetheless conservative (as so many union guys are), and his brother virulently racist. And he got more conservative as time went on. He was especially big on gun rights and home defense.

But there started to be a change in hm back in 1980 or thereabouts. And it was because of me. I was visiting him one weekend, still in my late teens. And I went out to a local club that Saturday night. Did not return back to his home until 3am. I inserted the key, and his dog started to bark. I walked in to find Dad running out to the front door with pistol in hand. CLICK

In his sleepy stupor, he had forgotten that I was there and was out and would be returning late. The only reason I’m alive to tell this story is because that afternoon he had cleaned that gun, and had neglected to reload it. He stopped keeping a loaded gun in his home right then and there. And while he is still conservative in many ways, he is a sensible man… so he sees Biden as not a great choice, but as a far better choice than trump. So over time he’s come to more centrist positions on many topics.

As always, the Señor with the extreme examples playing to emotions and pointing the finger as well to say "There, there he is" pointing his finger my way as if I'm racist and bigoted. All this hostility you carry, it's certainly not good for your health (which is okay with me). Instead of wasting your energies bitching try to be a little bit more upbeat and positive.
I don't want you to leave us just yet - blood pressure and an untimely passing. I want you to be around long enough to see Trump inaugurated. So think happy thoughts.

If Trump gets inaugurated again, I am likely to shut this place down and find somewhere where I will be safe...and you may never see or talk to me again...

And really, again, do you have to push buttons?

My post was educational for you, not emotional in the least, just the facts. I did not point any fingers at you saying you were racist and bigoted.
Fact - most republicans are racists and bigots.
I don't know whether you are republican or not.
I've had several maintenance doctor's appointments lately - no problems, even at my age.
I won't live to see Turnip inaugurated again, because he will never be inaugurated again.
Stating facts is not bitching, but your response smacks of it . . . and whining . . . a la Turnip.

My bad, I thought you had said something about dragging a black man chained behind a pickup. Yeah, if you had said something like that that clearly would be playing to the emotional and tying me to something like that would be crossing the Mason Dixon line.
Your's is a master's degree in bull sh*t.. I don't need you educating me about anything

No shoddy, YOU are the master. You just deployed the exact same talking point the right ALWAYS deploys: liberals don’t you dare politicize tragedy, don’t you dare appeal to emotion to attempt to effect change. Same stuff y’all do with gun violence. Yet it’s the Right that relentlessly appeals to the emotion called patriotism. Where we watch Alex Jones weep every time he evokes Old Glory, yet declares the left “bleeding hearts” for wanting to prevent classrooms full of children from getting mowed down.

The reality is that, within the past couple decades, black men have been chased onto highways to their death merely for being black. Been dragged to death behind pickup trucks for being black. Been gunned down for being black.this is not ancient history, and the conditions that produce these results have not been eliminated.

But you, like the remainder of the Right, are immune to education. Which is exactly why you, and folks like you, inhabit the right wing.

Michael, Michael.. if all that you and Señor are saying is true concerning the right wing extremists and the black man in this country then please explain the turnaround among the black that are leaving the Democratic party and they themselves becoming Republican voters. The blacks are leaving the Democratic party because their eyes are opening - they're seeing how they've been played. Biden's numbers among black and I might add Hispanics also are dropping. They're turning to the conservative vote and they're welcomed. People of Good Sense reject the nonsense of your silly ass progressive policies and what they're doing to the country

John William King, a white supremacist in Texas, dragged James ByrdJr. behind his pickup truck, dismembering him in the process, after pretending to be his friend and getting him drunk.
King was executed for doing so.
Obviously, you didn't know and were too lazy to look it up . . . or didn't know how.
I don't need a master's degree to be informed.
It was definitely not bulls*t, because it is true.
NO one, not me for sure, tied you to it.
Had you been involved, you'd be commenting from the same place King now resides for eternity . . .

Can you guys please stop this constant attacking calling names, whose dick is bigger BS, at least for a while...give it a rest...if you can't debate without insults, why are you even bothering? It is a slog to read and it is getting tedious. Thanks

It is also against the rules...I let it go on long enough.

Come on Señor, get up to speed; I'm starting to have doubts about you. Have you been 'following' the conversation ? You're talking like you just stepped in out of the blue some wheres - there's no consistent line of logic with you; you just bouncing off the walls and regurgitating stale blah.
You know sometimes you appear to come across as fairly bright and interesting and then you turn around you f up.
You basically a one track mind and talking points, that's it. With you it's rhetoric then repeated.
