If I lived in a high crime neighborhood I think keeping a Komodo dragon in the backyard be pretty cool - nobody's coming in the back door . Not even an octopus

Ugh. Supposed to be 106° today. I'm not happy about that.

It used to be fairly rare, but it happened. Usually temperatures in August are in the 80's or less, but when I was a kid we'd get about two days a year around 100° usually in July. Then last year we had that record breaking heat wave in June where we topped out at 116° which was highly unusual, and we've had several heat waves in the 90°s as late as October. We used to get snow fairly low down in October, although never on the valley floor until after Christmas. We live in a valley between two mountain ranges: The Coast Range and the Cascades. Through the winter I can usually drive a half an hour or so and find snow, but on the valley floor it's rare to have any snow that sticks around more than a day.Z is for Zangie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 3:52 pmIS this normal for you guys, aren't you pretty far north for temps in the 100's?
That said, we've also had some record breaking snowfall on the valley floor in the last ten years. Usually in January or February, but sometimes as late as March.
Due to El Niño this year we're supposed to have more moderate temperatures through the winter but more precipitation. However this could be utter bullshit and we could have a warm dry winter.
Currently it's 94° and it isn't even 11:00 a.m. yet.

Well we blew right through that. It's 108° right now, and it's supposed to keep climbing for a couple more hours. 108° would be a record if it hadn't been for that 116° in 2021. The previous record was 105°.
